Information on this page feeds to both the nsdl.org site and to the nsdlnetwork.org (Community) site. Some links may reflect a different brand and style (look and feel), depending on which site you are viewing.

 

NSDL policies cover the NSDL.org main portal and those portals and services directly under the aegis of NSDL Library Services and Operations (NSDL wiki; Expert Voices). Other portals and services may have their own policies, which may differ. Users are urged to be aware of the relevant policies on the portals and services they use.

Policies

  • NSDL Collection Policy [.pdf]  (February 2010)
    This policy is a revised policy defineing collection building practices and recommendations for NSDL. (Replaces the prior NSDL Collection Development Policy of 12-10-2007). This policy should be referenced in conjunction with the NSDL Resource Quality Guidelines document
  • Privacy Policy [.pdf]
    This policy covers the privacy practices of the NSDL.org main portal and those portals and services directly under the authority of NSDL Library Services and Operations.
  • Developing and Approving Policies [.pdf]
    This document describes the policy-making processes used by NSDL.

  • Recommendations to the NSDL Community for Privacy Policy Implementation
    This document contains suggestions and considerations to keep in mind when developing a website privacy policy.
  • NSDL.org Metadata Guidelines
    The metadata guidelines defines the categories of metadata used by NSDL in describing educational resources for the provision of digital library services and the administration of those resources. The policy defines the rights of collection holders and NSDL to the display and redistribution of metadata held by NSDL.
  • NSDL.org Editorial Style Guide [.doc]
    The editorial style guide have been developed to bring greater consistency to NSDL.org pages and the NSDL documents to which they link. These guidelines pertain to material generated by NSDL Core Integration for the NSDL.org site itself.
  • NSDL.org Branding Style Guide [.pdf]
    This document describes the proper usage of the NSDL logo, colors, fonts and the proper way to refer to the NSDL brand.
  • NSDL.org Website and Accessibility Best Practices [.pdf]
    This document contains the general web development and accessibility best practices for the creation of new web sites and the revision of existing web sites for NSDL.org.
